Digital Manual Scoping Study involving FLOSS Manuals
As previously reported, FLOSS Manuals was chosen to participate in a scoping study on the ‘Digital Manual’ funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). During the course of the scoping study which lasted two months, the researchers interviewed various members of their four case study groups, and this month the researchers and representatives from the case study groups gathered to hear the initial findings and discuss the plan for moving forward.
While our Mick Fuzz was on hand to represent FMF and has a lengthy writeup about the event on his site; our basic takeaways from the event were:
- There were varying ideas of what constitutes a "digital manual" and not one agreed-upon definition.
- Many more groups could benefit from working with FMF tools and methodology.
- FMF definitely wants to continue partnering and engaging academics and others in the educational space, but it's really important that we continue to focus on our core work of supporting the creation of Free Manuals for Free Software and always examine potential new engagements against that guiding mission.
